Bedroom dreams

My bedroom was the first bit of space I finished in my apartment. Mainly because the basic idea was ready and I used a lot of it in my previous apartment. The idea was to have white and fluffy and peaceful place where I could retreat to rest.

This was achieved rather easily with white walls, white furniture and white fabrics. After that the room was left to be so when the grand idea forms, I could go back to it. I have been looking pictures online and in magazines and I still am certain the white is still the way to go. I also want a little bit of certain type of "glamour" in there. A little zing, if you will, so the room is not just a white room with filtered natural light.

The more this thought process goes on, the more I fear I have to do and renovate in there. Well, time to get on with the wishlist!

I saw this wall paper when I was scrolling through Ellos and liked it very much. It is white wall paper with pearly white dots and it seems to be just what I was looking for. I was looking through these white on white ornament wall papers but none of them seemed to strike my fancy. I eventually came to conclusion that the pattern needs to be very simple and white on white. This seemed really cute and something fit for my bedroom.

I have old oak floors and I think they look very yellow, so either I would have it repainted or I could install completely new floors. Which ever happens, I want the floors being white, maybe little more grey than this, but definitely not yellow! It would bring more light to the room, not to mention how the whole room would seem brighter and more fresh.

My existing furniture I would keep, since I have one old white Muurame dresser and white Kartell Componibili and those I would keep. I have made a white faux leather head board for the bed and those would stay. On the dresser I would like to have a glass lamp, maybe something with balls again. My old mirror I would like to change, since it seems to be too small anyway. I would like to have a mirror with silver frame. I put up a picture of a white one, but I like the frame. Next to the mirror I definitely want Hay's Loop clothes rack.

I am in process of painting myself a new lamp too. It has bit more ornamenty feel to it and it has glass crystals. I shall see if it is going to be as good as I think.

A few simple things and I think it could bring the room in a whole new level of fancy.

Empty wall syndrome

It has been now a little over one year that I have lived here and my walls are still rather empty. I am not sure if it is my indecisiveness or am I just too scared to put anything on my walls. At the same time I don't want to look at my plain white walls, but yet again, I don't know what to put there. I am not sure if they should stay white either.

As it turns out, that problem might have solved itself when I was in the market for a new TV. I might put it up to the wall with some acoustic panels. I am fairly sure that will take up enough space from the wall so I don't need to do anything else to it. For this past holiday season I have had my paper stars up there, with my other Warhol. I couldn't choose which of the two Warhols I wanted out so I left them both there to see which one I would like more. I really don't want to take the stars down! I think I will keep them there until spring. That's not bad, is it?

I have found it rather difficult to get ideas for the opposing wall. The TV wall is the most visible and I have had many great ideas for it, but for some reason the wall above my sofa has been missing the grand idea. Before I knew what to do with my rear speakers, they stood on two old cd towers. I had one Ikea Billy CD tower, but surprisingly in this age of digital music, no one wanted it when I was getting rid of my Billy system. When I moved in, I cut the tower in two so I could have a place for the speakers. Not very stable solution, I'll admit it and I am very surprised that I managed to tip them over only once. Not to mention the towers on each side of the sofa made the wall look rather crowded.

For Christmas I decided to put some decorations on the wall. That sparked the idea of getting rid of the Billy towers, so what ever I would end up putting to the wall would have space to breathe.

Since I had the pink deer on the pillow, I wanted to pair it with these nice pink balls. I have a secret hoarding problem when it comes to these Christmas balls. I have a whole box of full these in different sizes and colours.

The white snowflake ornaments might be my favourite out of all my Christmas decorations. They are hand made from bone china and I found them at Habitare a couple years back.

After I had packed away the Christmas, I had one big white wall again. I took out my tools (or rather, borrowed them from my grandfather) and attached the speakers to the wall. This created even more space on the white wall. The wall craved for something to fill it up. On a whim, I decided the wall needs some Therese Sennerholt designs. I have had these prints and cards for several years now and they are my favourites, next to the one in my bedroom. Then I took out my hammer (that is actually mine) and not long and I had a few frames up.

One of the speakers here. I used a very small case to hide the cord. One day I will have entirely cordless system. For now I'll have to settle for hiding all the cords. Not to mention I started to dream of buying my speakers again, but this time in white.

The moomin picture had been looking for its place for a while now and I think it is now where it belongs. It is Pappas first meet with The Groke and from the memoirs of Pappa, my favourite moomin story.
