Unfortunate flu caught up with me, so many little projects are now waiting to be finished. I'll tell all about them once I feel better.

Little things!

There are always little projects going on and sometimes they turn bigger. On the last trip to Stockholm, I visited Granit and Moderna Museet and got these chalk paper stickets. I think the place for them would be on the front door, but as I looked at the door more closely, I decided it needs a fresh coat of paint. So a small thing became a big thing and these stickers are still on the table! Arne Jacobssen's design letters are still trying to find their place. 

A while ago I received a little package with the famous Tom of Finland stamps. I had this idea to turn them into cool magnets. It took a while, but now they are done! Some muscular man beauty for the entrance hall.

Tikkurila's colour Shantung was the colour I chose for my livingroom as an accent colour. This is the same colour I am thinking for the back wall of the kitchenette, to tie the two together.

Polka dots!

Picking out wallpaper was not easy. I am not sure if it ever is, but this time it took a long time. I wasn't sure what I was even looking for. I was not entirely into metallics that seem to be very popular in all the stores selling wallpaper. Another new thing I found was glitter. I didn't completely rule it out either, but I wasn't sure I would like it in the long run. Colours? Maybe. As long as they were light toned. For a long time it looked like I wouldn't be able to find a good wallpaper.

When I moved in, I made a decision to find something interesting to the back wall for my bedroom. Then I just decided to paint it white and look for the wallpaper later. I was looking into all sorts of patterns. Ornamental, more graphic ones... Flowers, birds. I must have been a horrible customer in a wallpaper store. "And what are you looking for?" "I am not sure, I'll know when I see it."

As I looked for the right one, I managed to rule most of the colours. Most of the patterns too. I decided to find something white, but maybe a little metallic shine or glittery pattern. I had forgotten my wallpaper search, when one weekend browsing through Ellos webpage I ran across this wallpaper called Callie and I was sold. Pearl white dots on white background, perfect! Simple pattern, colours that are easy to handle. I liked black dots as well, but decided against on such strong contrast.

I had read about these non-woven wallpapers and it was one of the reasons I decided to get this wallpaper. You don't need to wet it down first. Just do your groundwork for your wall as normal, then apply the glue straight to the wall and stick the wallpaper on it. Easy! Also this wallpaper was thick, so it was easy to handle. The pattern aligned into place each time, only had to cut it once and rest of it aligned perfectly!

I used Kiilto NOWO glue. At first it was really difficult to figure out how much glue to apply. Use too little and the wallpaper won't stick. Use too much and it oozes out. Extra glue I patted out with a damp cloth as I went on. Luckily the wallpaper was thick and could take a little wiping too, since it was full of finger prints after I had had my hands on them. I had extra pair of hands to help me put them up, but I am sure this could have been done alone too. I should add that this was my first time putting up wallpaper and I am pleased with the result!

The more I look at my wall, the more I am liking my wallpaper. The dots reflect the light different ways, depending where you are looking at it. It really brought my walls alive! I love my dots!
